What brands of personal computers do you service?
We service almost all brands of IBM compatible and generic desktop computers. We perform limited service on IBM compatible laptop computers.
Do you service MacIntosh (Apple) computers?
Sorry, we do not service MacIntosh (Apple) computers.
Do you service computer printers and monitors?
We perform limited laser and inkjet printer troubleshooting. Printer problems can sometimes be attributed to software related issues and /or various conflicts. We do not perform mechanical repairs on computer printers. The same may be said of computer monitors. Monitor problems are sometimes caused by other defective components i.e. video cards, and can be corrected by replacing the defective component and in most cases there are no serviceable parts in a computer monitor. We do not service computer monitors.
How much will A Tech In The City charge me for working on my computer?
The amount that is charged a customer is based on the type of work that is performed. In most instances, we work on a flat rate scale rather than charging by the hour. If we have to replace a part(s) in your computer, the cost of such part(s) is additional.
What is your turn around time for computer repairs?
Turn around time depends on a number of factors, i.e. the task(s) involved, our workload at the time, or whether we have to obtain or order parts for your computer. Most repairs and upgrades can be performed within 24-48 hours.
Can you walk me through fixing my computer over the phone?
Unfortunately we are not staffed or equipped to walk you through a step-by-step troubleshooting or installation process over the phone.
Who is responsible for the data on my computer?
You are. Although we go to great lengths to preserve the contents of your hard drive, we cannot be responsible for any information or software programs you have on your computer. You are responsible for keeping licensed copies of software programs, including your operating system, and backing up your personal data. For an additional charge, A Tech In The City offers limited backup services to help you if you are not capable of performing a backup of your data.
Note: The ability to perform such a backup is dependent on the overall integrity of your system as well as hardware and software considerations.
Do you warranty your work?
Our warranty policy is generally as follows: A Tech In The City will correct problems with your computer system that were apparent at the time of service and are the direct result of something that we did or that we failed to do. All parts that we install in your system carry a manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty period is 30 days. Our labor is warranted as stated above.
To illustrate: A customer brings in a system to have a new hard drive installed along with an operating system (Windows XP/Vista). Two days later, the hard drive fails. A Tech In The City will obtain a warranty replacement drive, subject to the manufacturer’s warranty policy, and replace it. We will also reinstall the operating system. This is a warranty and is done free of charge to the customer. The warranty period is 30 days.
What if A Tech In The City cannot fix it?
If for some reason we are unable to repair your computer, there is no charge. However, in-home networking service requires a 1 hour minimum charge.
